Activity description
Spices are a universe of emotions that evoke in us adventurous journeys, unscrupulous merchants, magical oriental nights, sumptuous palaces and aphrodisiac dinners, how can we not get passionate? Between the souks of Marrakech and those of Istanbul, passing by the plantations of Zanzibar, stunned by the scents and colours of spices, our lives changed and our journey began.
Il Mercante di Spezie was founded in 1999, the year the restaurant of the same name opened in the heart of Turin's Roman quadrangle. The restaurant immediately became a place of cultural exchange, where cuisines and dishes from all over the world were prepared and told to customers who became friends.
The spices with their perfumes and colours are displayed in dozens of small bowls, so that everyone can admire them, smell them, touch them, listen to our suggestions and finally taste them, a true sensory journey.
In 2004, the Il Mercante di spezie (The Spice Merchant) brand was registered, and at the same time the chapter of restaurateurs was closed to open that of entrepreneurs.
Elika srl was founded, a company that still markets the brand name. Years of great creativity went by, from which unusual and original products were born, such as spiced sugars, spice sugared almonds, flavoured salts, coffee, tea, chocolate, herbal teas, syrups, biscuits, breadsticks, snacks, sauces, all strictly spiced.
Our production and packaging laboratories became two, collaborations grew not only on the Italian market but also abroad.
Today, Il Mercante di spezie is a well-established brand that combines high quality standards with a range of proposals capable of satisfying every high-end food sector.
We consider "Il Mercante di Spezie" our flagship, the synthesis of our work and our philosophy.
Passion is therefore the beginning of this adventure, which has gradually been enriched by reading, study, practical experimentation, and interesting encounters with essentialists, master chocolatiers, artisans specialising in coffee roasting, and tea importers, encounters that have often turned into collaborations.
The journey that began many years ago continues, enriched with new ideas, projects and many new products. Spices are our world, our passion that we want to continue to share with you.
